Sustainability has long been important to SCHWEIZER.
We consider the ecological impact of every decision we take, whether it be the generation of energy for our production plants, the use of resources and materials for our products, or our packaging and advertising materials.
For several years here at SCHWEIZER, we have returned any waste and scrap material from our injection moulding facility to the production cycle or sorted it and sent it to a suitable company for recycling. For us, 'Made in Germany' not only means sophisticated technology, materials carefully selected for durability, and in-house production at the company headquarters in Forchheim; it also means significantly reduced CO2 emissions through shorter transport routes.
By offering numerous customer seminars and workshops throughout Germany, we also avoid participants having to travel long distances, thereby reducing the associated increased CO2 emissions.

The company has been using heat and power generated by our own woodchip power plant and photovoltaic array since 2006. Covering a total area of 2400 m², these systems produce 385,000 kW of electricity a year, which meets our annual demand for the production of magnifiers with and without illumination, lenses and low vision lamps. The resource-efficient use of materials and avoidance of waste has long been a core principle at SCHWEIZER.

Furthermore, we are gradually introducing product packaging made from sustainable, FSC-certified, uncoated paper and cardboard and in a smaller range of sizes. Bubble wrap is also being replaced by padding made from recycled paper. In future, the material used in our demo and trial boxes will be a hybrid blend of glucose, natural waxes, minerals, and natural fibres (recyclable).
We have also made changes to the small microfibre pouches used for storage and cleaning. From now on, they will be made from recycled material. Phasing out brochures and flyers in favour of digital formats along with our online ordering service saves a great deal of paper – reducing the use of materials (wood and water) as well as the emissions generated during transportation.
